Writing that Celebrates Rural Community



The Rural Heritage Institute at Sterling College, Craftsbury, Vermont, begins Wednesday June 11 and goes through Sunday June 15. The hands-on program emphasizes the heritage of Wendell Berry in terms of language, place, and rural community. Details are on the web site: http://www.sterlingcollege.edu/rhi.html.
Good news: Even if you don’t sign up for the conference, there are terrific parts that are open to the public, and some of them are free. Kingdom Books will be on hand for the Friday evening presentations from sister and brother authors Natalie Kinsey-Warnock and Leland Kinsey. Here’s the list of “Community Events” at the institute:
Wednesday June 11: Keynote Address 7:30 pm - Willem Lange, author of Where Does the Wild Goose Go? and Intermittent Bliss and commentator for Public Radio.
Thursday June 12: Regional Music 7:30 pm - "Fireside;'with Bennett Konesni. A musical hybrid of old-time Appalachian songs and Scandinavian fiddle tunes.
Friday June 13: Building Bridges Open House 4:00 pm - An expo of local and regional rural heritage, education, and agricultural organizations, including:
