Another List of Mysteries for 2008

Oline Cogdill at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel gave her list of top mysteries for 2008, in the Dec. 21 issue. Her top 16 are here (and if you'd like to read her annotations for each, click here). I was startled to realize that neither Dave nor I have yet read her top three -- which I guess goes to show how much taste can vary. I've picked off numbers 5, 6, and 11 for my own reading -- plus Carroll O'Connell's Bone by Bone. And William Kent Krueger just arrived in our collection, as a result of my flying visit to Wisconsin last fall.

But this isn't the first list I've seen with Jesse Kellerman's THE GENIUS, and I'm going to have to declare a Jesse Kellerman reading weekend later this winter.

1. The Finder, Colin Harrison
2. Envy the Night, Michael Koryta
3. Exit Music, Ian Rankin
4. The Turnaround, George Pelecanos
5. The Brass Verdict, Michael Connelly
6. Friend of the Devil, Peter Robinson
7. In the Dark, Mark Billingham
8. Trigger City, Sean Chercover
9. The Dawn Patrol, Don Winslow
10. Another Thing to Fall, Laura Lippman
11. A Matter of Justice, Charles Todd
12. Red Knife, William Kent Krueger
13. The King of Swords, Nick Stone
14. Good People, Marcus Sakey
15. The Likeness, Tana French
16. The Genius, Jesse Kellerman

Hi, Beth, Thanks for printing my year's best list. I labor over that list every year and put much thought into it. Happy reading. I noticed that the 4 debuts I had chosen did not make that list. I can send those to you if you want.
Always appreciate having the reviews, etc., listed.
